Elective Projects

Students must select one Elective Project each two-week course. The Elective Projects involve 1.5 hours in the afternoon, 4 days a week, plus an academic trip (4 hours) or guest speaker appearance – i.e., 8 hours per week.

In the 21st Century, strong communication skills are crucial. This module aims to develop students’ public speaking and debating skills, providing them with the necessary tools to construct compelling and logical arguments. Additionally, students will learn about important aspects such as poise, body language, and voice modulation. As an example of an academic trip, students may have the opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament.

Exploring English: UK Culture and Language

This module provides a comprehensive exploration of British culture. It aims to equip students with a well-rounded understanding of this vibrant and diverse culture. Moreover, students will have the chance to collaborate with their peers on a group project focused on British identity, allowing them to apply their knowledge and enhance their presentation abilities. An example of an educational excursion related to this course is a visit to The Milestones Museum.

This module aims to develop students’ creative writing skills and introduce them to new techniques through engaging activities and inspiration. Students will explore different genres and plot structures, learn the significance of dialogue, and refine their writing techniques. An example of an academic trip could be to Shakespeare’s Globe.

This module offers interactive lessons, debates, project work, and a field trip to a local community project to partake in volunteering work. It helps students develop critical thinking, engage in global issue discussions, and improve cultural awareness. It prepares them to be successful global citizens in their studies, work, and life. As part of the elective students will visit a local community project and hear from a guest speaker.

This module is perfect for students interested in technology, design, and engineering. Students will gain a deeper understanding of how engineering impacts our daily lives. The highlight of the elective is a thrilling project focused on a real-world challenge. This hands-on experience enhances their engineering knowledge and develops their skills in tackling global issues, problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking. Students will also visit the renowned London Science Museum and hear from an inspiring guest speaker.

This electrifying module is for tech-savvy enthusiasts eager to boost their knowledge and skills in computing, diving into the world of AI and coding. Students will gain practical experience through hands-on projects, crafting their very own app using Python or programming drones in JavaScript. And that’s not all! They will have an inspirational guest speaker talk and will be taken on an unforgettable academic journey to the legendary Bletchley Park, the top-secret home of the World War Two codebreakers!

The Future Global Leaders module focuses on leadership development and skills acquisition through activities like a mock election, presentations, discussions, academic trips, and guest speakers. Students gain practical skills such as strategic thinking and effective communication, while also gaining a deeper understanding of global issues. The programme prepares students for future leadership roles and equips them with the necessary skills to succeed in their chosen fields.
